چکیده
Ipsilateral proximal, diaphyseal and distal femur fractures are very rare. These fractures are seen especially in the adult population following motorcycle or in-vehicle traffic accidents. Treatment of ipsilateral multiple femur fractures are difficult and controversial. Variable types of fixation techniques and implants are proposed for these types of fractures, however, no evidence could be submitted for preference of any specific implant. The sequence of fracture type to be fixed first and type of implant to be used are questions yet to be answered. In this case report, we aim to draw attention to the diagnosis, treatment and follow up and also discuss complications which could be encountered during the treatment of these ipsilateral multiple femur fractures. Reverse distal femoral locking compression plate a salvage option in nonunion of proximal femoral fractures
BACKGROUND When primary fixation of proximal femoral fractures with implants fails, revision osteosynthesis may be challenging. Tracts of previous implants and remaining insufficient bone stock in the proximal femur pose unique problems for the treatment. Intramedullary implants like proximal femoral nail (PFN) or surface implants like Dynamic Condylar Screw (DCS) are few of the described impla...
متن کاملOpen vertical sagittal fracture patella with fracture lateral condyle femur: approach to a rare injury
Patellar fracture is a relatively uncommon fracture especially the vertical sagittal type. In cases of high energy trauma injury, it is usually associated with fracture of ipsilateral distal femur or proximal tibia. However, the combination of vertical sagittal fracture patella and ipsilateral fracture lateral condyle is very rare. This necessitates judicious diagnosis and appropriate managemen...
متن کاملSubtrochanteric and Distal Femur Fractures in a Patient with Femoral Shaft Fracture Malunion and Knee Disarticulation: A Rare and Challenging Case Report
This study aims to describe a rare and challenging case of a patient who presented ipsilateral subtrochanteric and distal femur fractures due to low-energy trauma. The peculiarity of this case is the presence of femoral shaft fracture malunion and knee disarticulation in the same limb resulting from an accident suffered 30 years ago. The patient underwent femoral diaphyseal osteotomy and fixati...
متن کاملIntramedullary Nailing of Femoral Shaft Fractures with Compressive Nailing Using Only Distal Dynamic Hole and Proximal Static Hole
Objectives: In this study we aimed to present our treatment results of intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures with compressive nailing using proximal static hole and only distal dynamic hole with one screw. Methods: Forty-three patients who had a fracture of the femoral shaft were managed between 2005 and 2008 with intramedullary nailing and the use of only one screw for distal inter...
متن کاملUse of reconstruction nails to manage ipsilateral displaced femoral neck-shaft fractures: assessment of a new approach.
PURPOSE Owing to unpredictable femoral neck reduction, reconstruction nails are not suitable for fixation of group 3 ipsilateral femoral neck-shaft fractures. We developed a new one-step fixation technique to overcome this problem. This study aims to assess this new technique at the Orthopaedic Department, Chi-Mei Foundation Medical Center, Tainan. METHODS Of 31 consecutive patients with femo...
